Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy on teaching is centered around the creation of an environment where students are welcomed to form their own pathways of inquiry and engage with others to address problems and formulate solutions. It's imperative that the skills commonly associated with Social Science like critical thinking and analytical skills should be seen as skills that are vital for everyday life and not merely the domain of the academic world.

Conversely, socioemotional skills like radical empathy and the usage of catharsis in expression should also find itself within academic pursuits that are less-commonly associated with those skills.

Examples of lesson plans are available here.

Art-Based Educational Research

Part of the major requirement for my Master’s Degree in Teaching was an inquiry project involving the implementation of an educational framework within my classroom.

Art for the sake of Education

The arts represent many potential avenues for student engagement and understanding. Beyond the socio-emotional learning that comes with more personal forms of expression, the effective utilization of the arts may also lead to the dissolution of detachment from their subject matter. Through a usage of radical empathy, where the usage of art's cathartic quality allows for the intrinsic humanity to be conveyed in a manner which breaks away from more traditional academic methods.
